Dear Citizens of Belleview,

I would like to extend a special thank you to Belleview Heating and Air for sponsoring and running Light up Lake Lillian. They did a fantastic job this year, adding a music concert, a laser light show, and a moving tribute to our first responders. I would also like to thank our public works department for all of their hard work in hanging the beautiful lights!

I recently had the pleasure of attending the children’s Christmas party at the Villages’ Elks Lodge on C25. This was a great event, featuring characters from the Star Wars movies, as well as Mr. and Mrs. Santa Claus. The children were served lunch and ice cream sundaes, and each received a special gift. It was heartwarming to watch this community group sponsor such a wonderful event for children!

The Christmas festivities are far from over in the City of Belleview. The annual Christmas parade will be held on Sunday, December 11 at 2:00 PM. This event is sponsored by the Belleview/South Marion Chamber of Commerce. The City of Belleview Police Department is also holding their inaugural 5K race on the same day. The race will begin and end at Cherokee Park, and awards will be given to age groups 3 deep. Please call 245-7044 for more information. Also, be aware of certain road closures on the day of the parade. US Highway 441, as well as SE 55th Ave. Road, will be closed beginning at 11:45.

In other news, I had the opportunity to attend the swearing in ceremony of our newest State Representative, Representative Stan McClain, in Tallahassee. I enjoyed the opportunity to see all of the State Representatives take their oaths of office! Congratulations to Representative Charlie Stone and to our newest State Senator, Senator Dennis Baxley, as well!

Please be advised that city hall will be undergoing some much-needed renovations in this upcoming year. We will try to complete this process as quickly, neatly, and efficiently as possible, in order to avoid any disruption or discomfort to our citizens as they conduct business in city hall.

Please join us for our next city commission meeting, to be held on Tuesday, December 19, 2016 at 6:00 PM in the commission chambers in city hall.

Mayor Christine K. Dobkowski
