From the Desk of the Mayor: August

August 15, 2016

Dear Citizens of Belleview,

I hope everyone has had the opportunity to visit both our brand new splash park and our new public works complex! The splash park has become very popular and is being utilized by a great number of children. Please bear with us as we continue to make improvements to the park, such as more picnic tables, more parking areas, and other improvements, as needed. Please take a moment to read the park rules before entering, such as no smoking or eating within the splash pad area. Also, please take advantage of our trashcans to dispose of dirty diapers and other waste material.

In other news, the Belleview Economic Development Council is currently accepting applications for façade grants for businesses located within the city limits. This is a matching grant opportunity that will allow local businesses to improve their appearance. Please contact Mariah Moody at 352-245-2178 for more information! The BEDC is also working on a project to beautify our city. They will be planting flowers and plants within the medians on U.S. Highway 441, with help from the Florida Department of Transportation.

Please join the Belleview South Marion Chamber of Commerce on Sunday, September 11 at Lake Lillian Park for a Freedom Memorial Event. They will be remembering the tragic events of 9/11 with a solemn walk around the lake. Various speakers will attend the event, and food trucks will be present to provide refreshments.

I will be traveling to Hollywood, Florida on Wednesday, August 17 to attend the Florida League of Cities annual conference. As always, I expect to bring back quite a bit of useful information to the benefit of our city and citizens! I will share this new information with you when I return.

The City of Belleview is currently accepting applications for our City of Belleview Youth Commission. The commission is open to any high school student, grades 9-12, who are enrolled in public school, private school, or homeschool. Applicants do not have to live in the city limits of Belleview. Applications can be accessed on our website at or interested parties can call Peggy DeGennaro at 352-233-2109 for more information.

The City of Belleview will also be completing our reorganization, depending upon an affirmative vote on this year’s budget. The City Clerk position will be separated from the City Administrator position, we will adding the position of Finance Director, and we will be eliminating the position of Deputy City Clerk. The millage rate will stay the same as last year.

Please join us for our next regular city commission meeting, to be held on Tuesday, August 16, 2016 at 6:00 PM.
