December 5, 2016

Dear Citizens of Belleview,

I hope everyone had a safe and happy Thanksgiving! We have several fun and exciting holiday events coming up in the city of Belleview in the next several weeks. Belleview Heating and Air will be hosting the annual Light up Lake Lillian event on Saturday, December 3, beginning at 3:00 pm. This year they will be adding a music concert and a light show. Also, join us on Sunday, December 11 at 12:00 PM for the first annual Shop with a Cop 5K run. This race will begin and end at Cherokee Park and will feature awards for a variety of age groups. Following the 5K, at 2:00 PM, the Belleview South Marion Chamber of Commerce will host the annual Christmas Parade.

In other news, the city will be considering a moratorium on medical marijuana at our first meeting in December. This moratorium would give the city a short period of time to create rules, regulations, and zoning in relation to this new law. We will also be recognizing one of our public works employees, Eric Pittsley, for aiding a citizen in distress, and we will be swearing in our newest police officer, Officer Casey Polidori.

In construction news, the new auto zone building is ready for its final inspection. Our development services department is also working with a local developer in regards to remodeling the old “Mojo’s” building into a retail center.

The city has recently applied for a micro grant in order to procure funds to make some improvements to Cherokee Park. We plan to build a clay walking path around the perimeter of the property, in order to provide an opportunity for safe exercise on the west side of the city. We are also planning to remove the shuffleboard courts, as they have fallen into disuse.

Please join us for our next city commission meeting, to be held on Tuesday, December 6 at 6:00 PM.

Sincerely,

Mayor Christine K. Dobkowski
